This lesson contains:

• A discussion starter about social mobility and how people move up social ladders. Then considering it during Elizbeth's time.

• Information about why education was changing, including literacy rates and the printing press.

• A video summarising educational changes and a discussion of who was most and least affected.

• A longer activity for students to use the information sheet provided to complete their worksheet organiser on education and what was afforded to each social class and genders within them.

• A plenary task in two parts: the first to judge three short exam exemplars, the second to have a go at an exam question themselves.
