Dictators L1 - Was Tsarist Russia Ready for Revolution?
This lesson contains:
- A starter to consider a contemporary quote about problems in Russia during the reign of the Tsar to get students thinking about the potential issues so far.
- A teacher-led activity to summarise and introduce students to Tsarist Russia, including some of the initial problems with size, population, language etc. Students make notes on their worksheets around the map.
- A recap and consolidation activity.
- A main task to study 5 characters (fictional) and what they have to say about the problems they face. From this, students can summarise and make general statements on their worksheets about the problems facing different elements of society. They can then make a judgement about the main causes of discontent in Russia by 1917.
- A chance to do some extended writing, or a quiz, using one of the two plenaries.
