Womens Suffrage L4 - How Did the Government React to the Suffragettes?
This lesson includes:
- An activity to study a guided read about the reasons why so many in the government were against passing any bills to award women the right to vote. Students use colours or highlighters to categorise the reasons.
- A depth study into the ways the Suffragettes were treated, looking at arrests, name and shaming, the hunger strikes and forced feeding, and the Cat and Mouse tactics. There are consolidation questions after each method and students use the information provided.
- An activity at the end to support or contradict a historian's viewpoint about the impact the Suffragettes had on the helplessness of the government.
