Women's Suffrage L2 - Who Were the Suffragists?
This lesson contains:
- An introduction to how women's rights had begun to improve in the latter half of the 19th century but there was still a long way to go. This moves on to the creation of the Suffragists and Millicent Fawcett's role.
- A guided read that discusses the main reasons for their creation, the methods they followed, their strengths and weaknesses. Students answer the questions on the side.
- A video that goes over the role of the Suffragists and overall importance of their movement. This is followed by a speech by female PM at the time, Teresa May, unveiling a statue of Millicent Fawcett in Parliament Square.
- A final plenary to discuss a source of the Suffragists and what it tells us about the women's rights movement. This leads nicely onto the next lesson on Suffragettes.
