Reform L5 - Did the Chartists Influence Voting Change?
This lesson contains:
- A starter to recap previous learning fro the campaign for rights lessons.
- A recap of the Great Reform Act and which groups in society would like or dislike it. The teacher can then introduce the Chartists and their goals.
- An introduction to the 6 points of the Chartists and a discussion based on the parts of it. Students then discuss which parts they think would be accepted or rejected by Parliament.
- An activity for students to study the goals of Attwood and O'Connor and how they differ int heir approach. They can complete the worksheet on this.
- A final task to study the later Reform Acts and what impact they had on the suffrage movements and increase in the franchise.
- A plenary to discuss whether the Chartists were successful in thier impact on the later reform movements using the stimulus provided.
