Slavery L3 – What Were the Experiences of Enslaved Africans?

This lesson contains:
A starter which can be edited depending on what you taught recently. This starter in particular is based on knowledge of the Slave Trade Triangle.
A teacher-led discussion of 4 objects shown on the board. The teacher then reveals what they are using the trigger clicks, and then students use what they have learned to write a summary paragraph.
An activity to read a part of Equiano’s book about the day he was captured. Students fill out a table about the key events mentioned. Then, students watch a scene from the TV Series ‘Roots’ and compare on the table the events they saw. This then leads to a discussion on usefulness and a chance to practice source skills.
A plenary to review which source was the most useful.
