Reform L1 - Was England Ready for Democratic Change?
This lesson contains:
- An introduction to the unit of study on democracy. The teacher can take the students through some source on the board showing the problems with the electoral system in 1800.
- Students can write down the definitions of democracy, representation and protest.
- An activity to study the three main reasons why there were problems with democracy in the early 1800's. This includes the changes to literature, the American and French revolutions and the issues with the franchise in Britain.
- Some extension activities to extend student thinking about whether Britain was ready for change and democracy.
