Silk Roads L6 - War - How Did the Mongols Conquer the Silk Roads?

This lesson contains:

• An introduction via a YouTube video and then a small map is given out of the Mongol Empire with the Silk Roads over the top. Students stick this in and get ready to take notes from your teacher explanation, covering the rise of Genghis Khan, the fighting tactics and the destruction of the Kwarazim Empire.

• An activity to study an info sheet on the later Mongol expansion and to add it to their mind maps.

• A task to link the Mongol control of the Silk Roads to the peaceful control through the Pax Mongolica. Students study the information table and colour-code it. they then do some follow up writing to discuss whether the Mongols were destroyers, or whether they improved the Silk Roads.

• A plenary to check their learning of some of the key facts.
