Crusades L4 - What Happened During the First Crusade?

This lesson contains:
Background info on the Crusades to remind students of what has happened so far, including the Pope calling for the Crusade.
An introduction to Godfrey of Bouillon through an image of him on the board, and then giving a bit of background to him. The 'story' for today will be telling the events of the First Crusade through his eyes.
An activity to read the story in chunks and then complete the questions on the worksheet. Each time you read, there is a glossary on the board (which matches the bold words in the story) and there are images after you've read to show the real situation and they can then visualise it better. All the while, the students will enjoy the tale but learn about what happened on the way. There are discussion questions on the slides too to get them thinking.
A plenary to write up activity too consider the consequences of the First crusade. there is a colour-coding sheet to be done and then students can summarise their thoughts about whether the Crusade may bring more trouble than good.
